Within The Circles of Life : An Olympus Exhibition

‘Within the Circles of Life’ is a new exhibition to share Rob Cottle’s work with the Japanese Ministry of the Environment which encapsulates a whirlwind tour of Japan delivering some exceptional images.

Rob was selected to create a brochure about the Akan Mashu National Park in Hokkaido; after researching the area Rob quickly realized that the wildlife and scenery at this stunning location is abundant year round. With only limited time he had a challenge on his hands to capture as much as possible – share Rob’s journey in Japan and see the results at After Nyne Gallery in London from 29 January to 4 February 2020.

Experience the beauty from his images and fall in love with this stunning location whilst getting some photo tips for when you embark on your next adventure.

“It was a huge buzz just to be involved, and to be photographing nature in such stellar surroundings was the icing on the vegan cake”
Rob Cottle

Rob is a wildlife photographer, critter lover and veganist from South Wales. He likes nothing better than laying silently in something he shouldn’t, whilst waiting patiently for the shot that doesn’t happen!

Wildlife is the reason he picks up the camera but it’s the camera makes him go out to see it more often. His adoration for wildlife is far more important than pressing the shutter button and its wellbeing always comes first.

Rob used his trusty wildlife combo of the Olympus OM-D E-M1 MKII with the 300mm and 40-150mm pro lenses, he had also had some tips using the E-M1X such as the live ND filter which inspired some images prior to travel and so took this along with the 7-14mm and 12-100 pro lenses.

“While in Tokyo I was able to capture quite a few long exposures hand held over a few seconds – I can remember previously when travelling with other systems I would look at the little-used lenses and think ‘too heavy’ and leave them at home, promptly regretting it on touch down”.

The images displayed were taken during a brief, full on but fantastic visit to Japan to promote the beautiful Akan Mashu National Park. Using these images and Rob’s words, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment has published a brochure to encourage tourism to this area of natural beauty.
