Ackerman Studios are pleased announce a solo show ‘Egg Roll Play’ from London based artist Mary Stephenson.
Having spent the last 2 years exploring her artist practice in Madrid and then Lisbon, Stephenson returns to London with a vibrant and exciting new body of work.
Stephenson’s work weaves narratives around the viewer drawing them into complex and surreal scenes. She uses humour and distraction to create tension and apprehension, breaking this through her use of objects depicted as characters; a bowl of sad olives, a surprised fork, a wistful piece of Stilton. These objects play a central role in Stephenson’s works, they both control and are controlled by the situations she places them in. The objects are as important as the characters she depicts.
Mary now works full time as a painter in London and has just been accepted onto the 3-year Postgraduate programme at The Royal Academy Schools, beginning October 2019.
